A show on Avati was held at The Monmouth Museum in 2011 with a number of the works for sale. Friends of mine who lived on the same street as him posed as children for one of his covers. The painting and drawing was very strong. I had a preference for his early work with it's strong naturalism. The stylization and candy color of the sixties and early seventies could sometimes feel generic. He had done the cover for the PB version of Catcher in the Rye that Salinger hated and was one of the reasons for him pulling the book from Signet and moving to Bantam.
