Wally Wood's birthday was yesterday. He was born June 17, 1927 in Menahga, Minnesota. But there were no celebrations, since a tornado went through that area yesterday. Wadena is the county seat, 20 miles south of Menahga. Here are some historical photos of Menahga.
I've been trying to remember the name of a horror story for some time now, and hope you can help.
The story appeared in a mass market paperback anthology, I believe in the sixties or thereabouts.
I believe the anthology was edited by someone associated with Castle of Frankenstein, which is why I'm contacting you.
If memory serves, one of the stories in the anthology was Various Temptations, by William Sansome.
The story I'm trying to locate was about a married man who's tempted by a next door neighbor. At the end of the story, his wife gives birth to a mentally-challenged boy. The boy's face is described as looking like a sideways egg.
By any chance, do you know the name of the story and its author? Or the name of the anthology?
I really appreciate your time. BTW, I love your site, which I never would have found other than being on this quest.
Rob: It's William Sansom (with no "e"). The story "Various Temptations" dates from 1947. You can get it in Tales of Love and Horror (1961) from Amazon. It's also in The Fourth Pan Book of Horror Stories (1963), London Tales of Terror (1972) and Various Temptations (2002).
