Anita O'Day on Night Music

Archival clips of Anita O'Day include her unforgettable appearance in Bert Stern's Jazz on a Summer's Day (1958) and a unique "Body and Soul" from 1950s live television.

Thank you so much for the Anita O'Day post. I followed Flickhead's five award winners and found your delicious little blog. Anita Day's Opus One was the parent's first dance song at my wedding (after our newlywed pick of Coltrane/Hartman's My One and Only Love).

O'Day and Krupa were so good...

  2. Okay... a real kick in the head. So I've added both Flickhead (link list) and Johnny Hartman, thanks to you. The 54-minute NPR documentary is mighty mellow.

I did meet Krupa one afternoon at the bar in the Metropole. He was being hassled by a boozy babbler, so he started talking to me in hopes the drunk would stagger into the street. Regrettably, I never saw Anita O'Day in a live performance.
